Dear Dr. Jain:

	Thanks for your letter received November 12 about the lack
of supplementary material.

	When I first received the information that an external review
would be required for adding a research associate to the proposal,
I supposed that this would delay the whole proposal, and therefore
I felt I had to give it up.  When you asked for the supplementary
material, the issue was more or less moot, but I was undecided
whether to go ahead.  Now it is clearly not appropriate to ask
for a supplement, since I have just submitted a proposal for
a new grant to continue my work in Basic Research in Artificial
Intelligence.  I assume that since the original proposal covered
three years, a completely new proposal was in order.

	I am sorry to have put you to trouble by my indecision.
